Rain Delay Today - Watched "The Greatest Night in Pop"

Had a couple hours to relax this morning due to the rain delay for today’s show @ SandBar and watched “The Greatest Night in Pop” on Netflix (Behind the scenes documentary of USA for Africa -  “We Are The World” )
That was a lot of incredible talent in one room, and a lot of information in the documentary. I always wondered how they got that many people together in one recording/video session. So many questions answered in a time where there was no internet/YouTube etc.

So interesting to see all of the singers/producers/crew make a song/video with such little time to prepare.

Random Thoughts (***SPOILERS***)

Wow, Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie were amazing in the producer roles… you can see the care and dedication during the recording process… especially carefully handling everyone’s overflowing ideas.
Quincy Jones is an excellent example of an amazing producer in this documentary… so many diverse roles and responsibilities to make a project happen.

Tom Bahler (vocal arranger) arranging vocal parts for all of the singers based on vocal range (all by researching singer’s ranges within a day.. wow)…

Didn’t know Huey Lewis sang since Prince didn’t make it to the session…

Didn’t know it was a decision between Cyndi Lauper and Madonna…

Watching Stevie Wonder/ Quincy Jones working with Bob Dylan…great moment…

Looks like the solo vocal takes were mostly after 4:00 am… that’s late to be recording vocals…(Springsteen singing @ 7:00am)

Whole new respect for some of the vocalists after seeing the behind the scenes footage… Must have been a lot of pressure to sing their parts in front of all of the people in the room… no individual vocal booths etc.

Watched the video after the documentary and didn’t realize the song is over 7 minutes long…

Still can’t believe the song was written and recorded (audio and video) what seems to be less than 10 days. Getting everyone together in one room (secretly) with little notice in an era where there was no internet/cell phones is pretty astounding…

So many more thoughts, but heading out the door for today’s show… good times!
